A few things worth knowing

The grid above is the whole week. Four of those hours come with a caveat, and they are the ones most likely to send you on a wasted trip — so here they are spelled out.

  • “Call first” classesTheir own schedule marks the 5:15 pm hour on Tuesday and Thursday “Call First!” — so make the call before you come.
  • Advanced Karate is by invitationThe Saturday 9:30 am hour is for students the instructor has invited. Everyone else is welcome at 10:30 am.
  • Tomiki Aikido runs on interestThe late Thursday hour is shared between karate and aikido and runs depending on interest — call ahead if aikido is what you’re coming for.
  • All ages really does mean all agesChildren train beside adults in the same class. The minimum age is 8; there is no maximum.

Minimum student age is 8 years old. All students practice at the discretion of the instructor.

Where the money goesMorning Star is run by Ake no Myojo Budo Inc., a registered nonprofit. Tuition covers the room and the art.
The room

Upstairs at the old signal tower

The Activity Room sits on the upper level of the Sykesville Visitor’s Center on Oklahoma Avenue — the restored B&O railroad interlocking tower that also houses the town post office.

Come a few minutes early for your first class so there is time to say hello before we begin.
